  • Heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a large ovenproof skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, sweet potatoes, and peppers, and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions begin to caramelize and sweet potatoes are tender, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Add garlic and continue to cook until fragrant, another 2 minutes. Add turmeric, paprika, ground cumin, salt and black pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant with spices, about 1 minute. Mix the tomatoes with their juices. (If you like a looser shakshuka, you can add a little water here.) Stir in the hot sauce and let the mixture simmer over medium heat. Cook until completely heated through and thickening, 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Using the back of a spoon or measuring cup, make 6 wells on the surface of the shakshuka. Crack one egg into each well.
  • Transfer to the oven and bake the shakshouka until the egg whites are firm and the yolks remain slightly jammed, about 10 minutes. (If you prefer more well-cooked egg yolks, bake a few minutes longer.)
  • Remove the shakshouka from the oven and immediately sprinkle over the feta cheese, herbs, and toasted cumin seeds (if using). Served with extra hot sauce and crispy bread on the side.
